Based in Switzerland the first solar powered plane has completed it first journey. This specialist plane is mainly constructed of carbon fibre and has 12,000 solar cells attached to its wings.
The planes first journey of an amazing 24hour hours has proven that the energy stored from the capture of energy during the day was sufficient to allow the plane to continue flying during the night.
The teams ambition is to fly across the Atlantic in 2012, which is estimated to take 25 days of continuous flying, in the hope to raise awareness of renewable technology and to promote its wider application.
