Earlier this week Action Surrey’s success in the County was recognised at the South East Energy Efficiency & Healthy Homes Regional Awards held at the Hilton at Gatwick Airport, where our previous Green Deal Communities project ‘Streets Ahead’ was lucky to receive runner up in the category 'Large Scale Project of the Year’.
The Streets Ahead project was a £2.5million programme, funded by the former Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) – now part of Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) – to provide grant funding towards the insulation of non-cavity wall properties. The project was one of the better Green Deal Communities projects across the country, with 464 individual properties across Surrey receiving funding and having solid wall insulation installed on their homes.
Following the successful delivery of this programme, Action Surrey will be using the knowledge and experience developed through ‘Streets Ahead’ to launch a fuel poverty-based programme across the County in 2017 to assist those on a lower income, and with higher energy/heating bills, in upgrading their boiler/heating system.
Residents in Surrey can be entitled to up to £2,500* towards installing a replacement boiler/heating system if they meet the following criteria:
The property has a low energy efficiency rating as assessed by Action Surrey AND the household fits one or more of the following categories:
- The total household income is below our set threshold
- At least one household member is over 75 years old,
- At least one household member has a long term cold related illness or health condition that has been diagnosed by a health professional.
