The Green Deal Cashback Scheme

Under the new government scheme, the Green Deal, homeowners will be able to claim over £1000 cashback towards improving the energy efficiency of their home. The more work households decide to have done, the more cash they could receive.
To qualify for the Cashback Scheme, householders need to:

Book and have a Green Deal property assessment carried out on their property

Must be installed by a GD accredited installer / and have a Green Deal report

Complete works within the specified period
What is the `Green Deal'?
The Green Deal is a new government scheme that allows homeowners to install energy efficiency improvements with no upfront cost. The work is financed through a low interest, unsecured and flexible loan, that is attached to the property (the energy meter to be specific) and can be spread over the expected lifetime of the improvements (eg a boiler, 12-15 years). The loan repayments are then paid back through the energy bills and stay with the property, not the individual. A specific test is applied to Green Deal finance that states; the loan repayments must not be more than the savings made on the energy bill, making the homeowner better off from day one.
Green Deal finance is expected to be available from late January.

*Where Cashback is claimed on solid wall insulation, the solid wall insulation must be applied to at least 50% of the external wall area.
**Cannot be claimed at same time as boiler replacement (as this is a regulatory requirement).
***Off gas-grid households should consider their renewable heat options - higher payments may be available through the Renewable Heat Premium Payment scheme than the Green Deal Cashback offered for condensing boilers.
