Charles decided to fully insulate his home and have some solar electric panels installed after leaving a tour of Oak Tree House last year with the determination to reduce his household carbon footprint.

House type: Detached house, built in 1924.

Energy Efficient Measures

  • Energy efficient light bulbs throughout.

  • Double glazing throughout.

  • Cavity wall insulation throughout.

  • New insulated front door installed and back door removed and bricked up.

  • Loft insulation topped up to 300mm.

  • Induction hob replaced gas hob.

  • New convector radiators installed throughout.

  • High efficiency condenser boiler

  • Behavioural measures e.g. Minimising hot water and lowering central heating settings.

Renewable Technology

  • 3.5 kWp of solar Photovoltaic panels (expected to generate around 2120 kWh) save about 1445 kg of CO and earn £721 per year from the Feed-in Tariff, export and saving on electricity bills). Installed July 2012.
