World's first Renewable Heat Incentive will be launched in UK: June 2011
9 November 2010
The recent Spending Review confirmed the Renewable Heat Incentive will be launched in June 2011. The Renewable Heat Incentive will offer all homeowners in the UK the opportunity to be paid for generating energy, provided by various renewable sources, including solar hot water panels.
Final details of the tariff are to be confirmed, however it is proposed the homeowner will simply have to follow three steps:
-
Install a renewable heat system, using an installer who is accredited to the MCS scheme.
-
An estimate of how much heat the system will produce will be calculated.
-
The homeowner will be paid a fixed amount based on the estimate. It is suggested the tariff will be 18p/kWh for a small scale system (up to 20kW) and guaranteed for 20 years.
Although the Renewable Heat Incentive will not go `live' until June 2011, any installation of a solar hot water system after 15th July 2009 and installed by an MCS accredited installer, will qualify for the incentive. Therefore homeowners will be able to claim the Renewable Heat Incentive from launch day.
