Spotlight on: DIY Solar Hot Water Course - 30th June 2012
Host: Lee Rose from Norfolk Solar
What is solar hot water?
Solar water heating harnesses free power from the sun and can provide around one third of the hot water requirements for an average family home. Whilst they work best on warm sunny days, modern solar systems will heat up water all year around, even on cloudy, overcast days in winter.
Solar water heating is perhaps one of the most affordable active solar technologies for domestic use offering regular cost savings on fuel bills and compares favourably with other home improvements. The benefits of solar water heating are:
-
Hot water throughout the year: the system works all year round, though you may need to top up hot the water with a boiler or immersion heater during the winter months.
-
Cuts your bills: sunlight is free, so once the initial installation is complete your hot water costs will be reduced.
-
Cuts your carbon footprint: solar hot water is a green, renewable heating system.
So come along to our DIY Solar Hot Water course…..
The course will provide you with sufficient information to have a go at building your own system if you have basic DIY skills. But this is not to say this course is only for DIY enthusiasts as it will also give you enough information to help you consider whether a solar hot water system would be right for your home, and will give guidance on how to choose a good installer.
