Spotlight on: Introduction to Permaculture Sat 24 Sept
Host: Peter Cow
What is Permaculture?
Permaculture design is about creating practical ecological strategies for land, water, buildings, people and communities. It involves developing systems that are resilient and contribute to environmental, social and personal well-being, and is based on a philosophy of cooperation with nature.
It has particular relevance today as it offers a conceptual framework, design principles and practical strategies to cope with issues raised through peak oil and climate change.
Permaculture encourages us to use our individual skills, knowledge and interests, whilst drawing on science, traditional wisdom and our innate ability to observe and learn from the world around us.
Whether your interest is gardening, farming, planning, building homes, community work, economic regeneration, business or green lifestyles, the application of Permaculture principles empowers you to make a positive contribution towards a sustainable future.
This one day workshop provides an excellent "taster" to actively learn about the ethics, principles and applications of permaculture design. It will cover the basics of Permaculture, the design process that helps us to make more sustainable choices - from making lunch through to designing an eco house and introduce participants to the core design principles and showcasing inspiring examples of Permaculture in action. There will also be a practical "how to" session on building a rodent proof wormery from waste materials, and a hay box no fuel slow cooker. It assumes no previous knowledge, and can be taken by itself, or as a sampling before going on to a full 90 hour Design Course.
Your host is Peter Cow who is an experienced Permaculture teacher and designer based in Surrey. He was awarded the 'Diploma of Applied Permaculture Design' by the UK Permaculture Association in 2007, and has been teaching on Permaculture courses since then, from 1 hour taster sessions to 2 week residential courses, to mentoring apprentices through the 2 year+ Diploma
