What is World Wildlife Day?
On the 20th of December 2013 at the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) proclaimed the third of March World Wildlife Day. This was done as it was the date of international adoption of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, also known as CITES.
What is the purpose of World Wildlife Day?
All over the world people rely on wildlife and biodiversity resources to meet our living needs- from food, fuel, housing, medicines, and textiles. For us and future generations to enjoy the benefits and beauty that nature and wildlife bring these must be protected.
What is the theme for World Wildlife Day 2024?
For World Wildlife Day 2024 the theme is digital innovation and ensuring all people have equal opportunities to ensure job ready digital skills. Digital technologies have enhanced organisations ability to track wildlife, share and exchange research and perform DNA analysis.
For WWD 2024 the UN has created a platform for intergenerational exchange and youth empowerment through presentations, art and conversations for a sustainable future and digital assisted wildlife conservation.
